Finding Hope through Life-Changing Radio

Feb 20, 2012 | Our Listeners

I am one of your listeners and your broadcast was truly instrumental in changing my life.

In September 2006, the company I had helped build was headed for deep financial trouble. My then fiancée and I just celebrated our fifth anniversary when this impending doom knocked on our doorstep. The financial and emotional stress I was going through slowly turned me into a very miserable man. I struggled to make ends meet and ended up spending the very last centavo of what little I had saved just to survive.

Deep in debt, the company had no choice but to declare bankruptcy. I lost everything I had worked hard for, along with my self-confidence and dignity. My weakened state of health also made things worse. My relationships were in turmoil.

I got into constant fights with my fiancée. In July 2007, she broke up with me, saying she had fallen in love with someone else. Though the last two years were very tough on us, I never thought it would come to that.

My world was shattered; I wanted to end my life as six years of memories flooded my mind. I wanted to pray but I did not know how to begin. I turned the radio on but all I heard were sad love songs that only made me feel worse. I questioned God, asking Him why He allowed those things to happen me.

Then I remembered the billboard of a radio station I saw in the Banilad-Talamban area. I turned the dial to that station—98.7 DYFR—and spent the whole day listening. The music and messages aired that day called to my soul. I felt that the broadcast was for me alone. It helped fill that huge vacuum in me. The pain was still there but it seemed a bit lighter.

When the station signed off, I felt the emptiness once more. The pain was so great that I turned to alcohol. I wanted to drink myself to sleep. But even that didn’t help. Alone and afraid, I started to cry out, “I can’t take it anymore! I need you, Abba Father! I lay everything at Your feet. Help me! Save me! I beg you.” Then I began crying like I have never cried before.

It took a simple prayer for my life to turn around. In my anger, I arrogantly questioned God. But still, He answered. He led me to the Book of Job to remind me of my folly. He made me see that all the good I did was not for His glory, but for my own. I asked for forgiveness for my lack of faith. That night, I asked Jesus into my life and nothing has ever been the same since.

The whole day was a demonstration of His presence in my life. It was then that I truly understood He wanted to take an active part in my life.

After that very trying episode in my life, I was able to find two jobs in the span of seven months and get back together with the woman I love! I know that all those things happened to bring me to a more intimate relationship with the Father.

My life may be light-years away from a happy-ever-after-ending but I would gladly settle for the “happy” part because I know that the One who can bring me to the “life-ever-after” is looking out for me.

How God Blessed Esther Jara through DYVS Bacolod

Through the radio programs aired in a number of stations run by FEBC Philippines, many people have been touched and blessed by God even though she has been declared legally blind.

Please watch the video below and rejoice with Esther Jara as she recounts God’s touch in her life through the ministry of FEBC Philippines.

98.7 DZFE FM – An Alternative to Metro Manila’s Blasting Radio Stations!

Dec 30, 2011 | Our Listeners

Ms. Ruby Ann Kagaoan, an avid listener of 98.7 DZFE-FM wrote about the impact of the Master’s Touch FM on the drivers of the taxi she rides. The following excerpt is taken from her article originally published at www.journal.com.ph.

Several Metro Manila FM radio stations claim to be “Number 1.” One wonders how many “Number 1” slots can there be in the FM airwaves. To pound their point at being “Number 1,” the stations have station ID’s that are repeated, and repeated, and repeated, sounding like a clanging gong. The method employed for high station ID recall seems to be nothing short of brainwashing. And it can drive those unused to Metro Manila’s FM airwaves crazy! But then, a daily megadose of such station ID’s has simply become a way of life for those driving through the metropolis. It seems that drivers, of public utility vehicles in particular, cannot anymore do without the blasting programs of these radio stations….

Whenever I ride a taxi, I always politely ask the taxi driver, who is usually listening to either a blasting FM program or an AM station’s news program, which often shakes the listeners with descriptions of heinous, gory crimes, especially in the mornings, to change the station to my favorite FM radio station. Once he has settled on the road, I say, “Maari po ba na ang istasyon natin ay 98.7 sa FM?” [Can we change our station to 98.7 on FM?] Sometimes, the taxi driver asks me, “Anong istasyon ba ‘yan?” [What kind of station is that?] “Classical station, po,” I answer. “Gusto ko po ang musika don. Relaxing. Maingay po kasi yung ibang mga istasyon. Palakasan ng sigaw ang mga radio hosts.” [I like the music there. It is relaxing. The other radio stations are too noisy.

The radio hosts seem to try to outdo each other in being loud.]

Always, one-hundred percent, the taxi drivers who drive me to my destinations end up liking 98.7 DZFE. They find its music selection different and easy to the ear and mind. It is a non-commercial FM station that plays relaxing classical music and classic songs, has insightful segments, and its program hosts have the most soothing voices. True to its calm station ID, 98.7 DZFE The Master’s Touch is “the station that cares to uplift the inner man.”

From You, Our Listeners

From the 98.7 DZFE-FM Facebook fanpage:

“Thank God, I’m now connected to Master’s Touch! I will be more updated of the programs of DZFE. As I remember, I started listening to this station during my college years and until now. May you continue to bring hope, encouragement, inspiration, and courage to every kind of people through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God bless you more for the advancement of His Kingdom!”

From a listener of FEBC Japan:
“…This is my first letter to you. I am one of the victims
from earthquake and tsunami who cannot go home—a lost sheep who has my house in Fukushima near the nuclear power plant.  Fortunately, I am nowliving at my parents’ home. My family has survived and we have started to recover.

Thank God, a friend of mine reminded me aboutFEBC’sbroadcasts. Since I am an early bird who is already in bed when the broadcast starts at 9:30 p.m., I listen to your programs through the Internet. What a blessing that I can listen to FEBC through the Internet!
I have to plan my future from now on. I am an elementary school teacher and the new semester starts in April. Yet, nothing has been
decided, and I don’t know at which school will I be teaching.  We lost quite number of children’s lives and many houses. Our hearts are broken! Needless to say, nobody can tell when I can go back to my own house… but I will pray and seek God’s will as I listen to FEBC. Thank you very much! I will get in touch with you again.”

A listener from China testifies:

“The people in my village live in an isolated area in China with no contact from the outside world until 21 years ago…when we were introduced to FEBC’s Liangyou radio station. Every day at the appointed time, we gather around our radio receiver. The FEBC station became our true friend. No matter what problems we encountered, the radio was always beside us–helping us, guiding us, teaching us.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From a listener of DYVS Bacolod:
“… In these trying times and difficulties, we find it hard to hear some good news and encouragement from all sorts of medium. We praise God that there is still DYVS where we can get some Good News regarding our situation. Whether we are facing hardships and trials, there are programs we can listen to. We just thank the Lord for having a radio broadcast we can rely on.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A Burmese listener testifies:

“I went to Bangkok to find a job…was arrested for overstaying…and put in prison. I thank God for placing me in that situation, because my time in jail led me to your broadcasts. Your programs gave me direction and I began to consider the kind of life I had been living. I’m especially thankful that I came to know the Lord through your broadcasts… and I thank you for your messages thet turned my heart around.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A listener of DZAS’ online broadcast writes:
“I am a Filipina working as a missionary teacher in Indonesia. I listen to your broadcast everyday… Thanks to technology, I am able to receive blessings from your radio station. Listening to your station inspires me to be more joyful in serving God here. It is also very informative.
I just wanted to say that DZAS has become part of my Christian walk. Thank you for your ministry!”
A listener of DXKI Marbel shares:
“I am encouraged in my daily routine whenever I listen to the programs of DXKI. Frankly speaking, I used to hate DXKI when I was not yet a Christian. But by God’s grace, I am a Christian now and the station has helped me grow in the faith. Thank you, FEBC, for your ministry through DXKI!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From a listener of one of our minority broadcasts:

“The very first time I started tuning in, I was very proud to know that someone was airing a program using our native language. Not very long after I began listening I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior…just as your program guided me to!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A listener of DYVS Bacolod writes:
“I am so glad to inform you that the Lord is using your station as His voice of salvation to the lost and to strengthen the lives and faith of many people including me. Thank you, too, for the expositions of Mr. Chuck Swindoll!”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From a listener in Vietnam:

“My family and I are Christians and we frequently listen to your programs. We also use the resources from the website to share in our cell group. I personally enjoy all of your broadcasts because they offer a balanced presentation of programs, which are both educational and biblical. Thanks again to you and your staff!”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A text message from a DYFR-FM Cebu (Philippines) listener reads:
“A blessed day, Life Changing Radio!  Your radio station is really amazing!  It helps me get back to the right track (and reminds me of) what life is—a preparation for eternity.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From a listener in Russia:

“I became a Christian because of FEBC broadcasts…thank you! I love God and want to praise Him for the rest of my life. My parents are non-believers and they don’t want me to serve God. They don’t have any relationship with me anymore and don’t even talk to me. Please pray that God will change my parents’ hearts and draw them to Himself.”

A Testimony from a Listener in Indonesia

I have been changed and have had knowledge about faith in Jesus through the sermons I listen to every day through FEBC Manila. Before I came across your programs, I did not have enough knowledge; I had no courage. But ever since I listened to FEBC, I was able to open my heart to the Lord again. My spirit rejoices that I would continue my ministry in our little village. I have seen many miracles happen through prayer–- the Lord healing the ill, strengthening the faith and many people receiving Jesus as Savior. Thank you so much for every prayer. May God bless you!

Thank God that Nguon Song Radio has been my teacher over the years and has helped me mature in my faith.  My desire is to be a bridge for Nguon Song’s ministry by introducing your material to the young people of Vietnam who do not know the Lord.

Recently, God has allowed me to serve Him through the Internet by using blogs and Yahoo Messenger.  The results have been great. I wanted to take this time to express my gratitude to you… I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  May God bless you with the power of the Holy Spirit to continue serving in the ministry He has called you to!

… Your radio station became my friend when I didn’t have one. Listening to you encouraged me and cheered me up whenever I felt low. Through your station, I was able to gain a lot of friends in the Lord. You made me realize that God really loves me and my family …

A Listener from Laos Shares:

…I listen to your program and now I believe in God. I am happy to have our own language on air, so now we can understand the Bible more.  Even the non-believers and the old people in our place listen to the radio now. I praise God for that. Thank you to FEBC for sending the Good News to save us…

…I’d like to congratulate your station for its new and more powerful transmitter, which now enables its listeners to better receive and hear wonderful classical music, and most especially, God’s word, over the radio waves! I’ve been a long-time listener of your radio station and I continue to enjoy the magnificent pieces played by the classical geniuses. I pray that you continue to receive the necessary funding to further improve your station’s transmitter equipment and facilities. You all are doing a great job!

I’m glad that I’m able to listen to 98.7 DZFE even when I’m in Anilao, Mabini in Batangas where I often go to dive to enjoy God’s beauty and wonder from under the sea! The signal strength is dependent on where I position myself along the beach, but I do get a decent reception when I’m able to find a good location. Listening to classical music and the Word of God by the sea is such a fantastic and spiritually-uplifting experience!

A Listener’s Feedback to DZFE’s Improved Broadcast

From a Nguon Song Listener in Phu Yen Vietnam

I listen to Nguon Song’s broadcast regularly and tell others about your broadcast as I have been doing for many years.  May God give His anointing and power to your ministry so that it would be fruitful and bring glory to God!  I don’t know if you remember, but in 2007, I asked for prayers from Nguon Song as the government would not allow me to go to a seminar on theology.  God answered our prayers and I was able to take that course.  But when I came back, I was not allowed to lead the two home churches that I was responsible for.  Please continue to pray for me in this struggle.

A listener from Ho Chi Minh City Testifies

Thirty years ago, I was a devout Buddhist. But this belief did not meet my needs so I looked for another faith. One day, I heard a pastor preach a powerful sermon. It touched my heart so I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. For about nine years now, I have had the privilege to learn God’s Word through Sunday School every week. Every week there is a quiz and I really enjoy it. I go to two different churches on Sundays to worship God and listen to His Word. I pray three times a day to ask God to teach me, help me understand and memorize His Word, and to remember hymns and other songs that are sang in church.

This year, I am 80 years old; my memory is fading and learning hymns has become difficult, but I feel blessed and thankful to God for what I have. I’m thankful that God has given me a pocket-sized radio. I just happened to turn it on and Nguon Song’s broadcast came up. I was so excited that I listened all the way until the end of the program, then I started dinner. Thank God that He has given me a 4th radio that allows me to listen to Nguon Song and other stations clearly. And now I would listen to my radio until 10 p.m. before I start my dinner. I record each session so that I can listen to it again. As for the quality of the broadcast, at times it is perfectly clear. At other times, I can’t hear a thing.

At times I want to catch the broadcast at 5 a.m., but I miss it because I get home from church late the night before. Please send me copies of your broadcast so that I can read it again and give it to my friends in my small group.

I am a regular listener and am usually tuned in between 6:30 a.m. to around 8:15 a.m., on my way to the office. Please allow me to commend and give credit to David, your morning DJ, for his very good choices of Baroque selections. I really like the type of classical music he plays on air, particularly Baroque music. He’s a learned classical enthusiast who surely knows his music!

One thing I like about his style is his untiring explanation—providing background on the type of music, the artists, the composer/s, the musical instrument/s used and the era when the music was composed (and popularized).

I’d also like to give your station recognition for using a Christian values platform for your programs. DZFE is definitely rare, a true Christian station and in a class of its own!
