Who hasn’t heard the voice of Sis. Tessie Tan-Veloso on the daily Chinese program over 702 DZAS “Agapay ng Sambayanan”? After almost five decades of being on the program and personally touching the lives of the Filipino Chinese brethren, Bi Lan-chi or simply Ate Tessie has truly been a blessing to all of us.

But the well-loved Bi Lan-chi has moved on. On July 28, at around 8:00 in the morning, she went home to be with the Lord.

Ate Tessie, as all of us fondly called her, has been with this radio ministry for a very long time. In fact, she has worked much longer than a lot of us here at FEBC Philippines.

As a young teenager back in 1961, Ate Tessie obediently heeded the Lord’s call for mission work. This burden grew in her heart, when, as a young kindergarten student years before, she would come to visit the FEBC office in Valenzuela City.

As soon as FEBC Philippines was established in 1948, a group of Chinese Christians immediately began this ministry. They realized that the older Chinese folks, and even the younger ones, had to hear about God and His love. And what better way to listen to the Gospel broadcast than in Amoy, their very own heart language.

Our first broadcaster was Mrs. Chua Kian Tiang, or Mrs. Phoebe Chua, another fine Christian woman. When Bi Lan-chi took over the program, back in the early 1960s, the Lord continued to prosper the ministry, giving many listeners the opportunity to know Him and begin a vibrant faith walk with Him. As she came to know them personally, she became their counselor and radio pastor. Relationships soon developed, through which she was able to introduce the bigger and greater scope of the work of FEBC Philippines, not just here in the country but in Southeast Asia as well. Until now, many of these Chinese Christians have remained faithful partners of this radio ministry.

Ate Tessie tirelessly visited those who were sick, at home or in the hospital. She compassionately took time to be with listeners who were grieving. Almost each week, she was speaker at a conference, a church service, or a fellowship. She made herself available whenever and wherever she was needed. Even when she herself was battling different major health issues.

Rev. Proceso Marcelo, her long-time colleague and one of our faithful workers here at FEBC, remembers her as a hard-working and faithful co-worker. According to him, her death is indeed a great loss for FEBC. Quoting from Revelation 14:3, he said, “I have witnessed her faithfulness and tirelessness in serving the Lord day and night. She joined us in visiting many homes, offices and churches. Countless people have also come to know and support FEBC because of her. Only the Lord knows how much she has contributed for this radio ministry.”

How well said from another godly man and faithful worker! Indeed, death is an ugly thing. And this year, we at FEBC have been jolted by the death of DXAS Zamboanga Station Manager Rev. Jorge Que and now, Sister Tessie Tan-Veloso. And yet, the fact is – the death of His saints is not a loss but a reward. Not just a promotion from all the pain and hurt and suffering in this world. But far more important than all this is the truth that forever will she be in the presence of our great God. And that should be enough.
Please join us in praying that God will indeed raise another Tessie Tan-Veloso to continue her legacy. May her life also serve as an encouragement for all of us to remain steadfast and firm in God and in His service.

A listener of DZAS’ online broadcast writes:

“I am a Filipina working as a missionary teacher in Indonesia. I listen to your broadcast everyday… Thanks to technology, I am able to receive blessings from your radio station. Listening to your station inspires me to be more joyful in serving God here. It is also very informative.

I just wanted to say that DZAS has become part of my Christian walk. Thank you for your ministry!”

A listener of DXKI Marbel shares:

“I am encouraged in my daily routine whenever I listen to the programs of DXKI. Frankly speaking, I used to hate DXKI when I was not yet a Christian. But by God’s grace, I am a Christian now and the station has helped me grow in the faith. Thank you, FEBC, for your ministry through DXKI!”

From a listener of one of our minority broadcasts:

“The very first time I started tuning in, I was very proud to know that someone was airing a program using our native language. Not very long after I began listening I accepted Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior…just as your program guided me to!”

A listener of DYVS Bacolod writes:

“I am so glad to inform you that the Lord is using your station as His voice of salvation to the lost and to strengthen the lives and faith of many people including me. Thank you, too, for the expositions of Mr. Chuck Swindoll!”

From a listener in Vietnam:

“My family and I are Christians and we frequently listen to your programs. We also use the resources from the website to share in our cell group. I personally enjoy all of your broadcasts because they offer a balanced presentation of programs, which are both educational and biblical. Thanks again to you and your staff!”

A text message from a DYFR-FM Cebu (Philippines) listener reads:

“A blessed day, Life Changing Radio! Your radio station is really amazing! It helps me get back to the right track (and reminds me of) what life is—a preparation for eternity.”

From a listener in Russia:

“I became a Christian because of FEBC broadcasts…thank you! I love God and want to praise Him for the rest of my life. My parents are non-believers and they don’t want me to serve God. They don’t have any relationship with me anymore and don’t even talk to me. Please pray that God will change my parents’ hearts and draw them to Himself.”

A Testimony from a Listener in Indonesia

I have been changed and have had knowledge about faith in Jesus through the sermons I listen to every day through FEBC Manila. Before I came across your programs, I did not have enough knowledge; I had no courage. But ever since I listened to FEBC, I was able to open my heart to the Lord again. My spirit rejoices that I would continue my ministry in our little village. I have seen many miracles happen through prayer–- the Lord healing the ill, strengthening the faith and many people receiving Jesus as Savior. Thank you so much for every prayer. May God bless you!

A Listener from Vietnam Testifies

Thank God that Nguon Song Radio has been my teacher over the years and has helped me mature in my faith. My desire is to be a bridge for Nguon Song’s ministry by introducing your material to the young people of Vietnam who do not know the Lord.

Recently, God has allowed me to serve Him through the Internet by using blogs and Yahoo Messenger. The results have been great. I wanted to take this time to express my gratitude to you… I thank you from the bottom of my heart. May God bless you with the power of the Holy Spirit to continue serving in the ministry He has called you to!

A DYVS Listener Writes

…thank you for heeding to God’s calling. Many are blessed, changed because of the message you proclaim. Hope you would continue and remain steadfast whatsoever, to touch and transform many lives for Jesus by His grace. I thank God for you and your ministry. God bless you. To God be the glory forever and ever…

From a DXFE Listener

… Your radio station became my friend when I didn’t have one. Listening to you encouraged me and cheered me up whenever I felt low. Through your station, I was able to gain a lot of friends in the Lord. You made me realize that God really loves me and my family …

A Listener from Laos Shares:

…I listen to your program and now I believe in God. I am happy to have our own language on air, so now we can understand the Bible more. Even the non-believers and the old people in our place listen to the radio now. I praise God for that. Thank you to FEBC for sending the Good News to save us…

An E-mail from a DZFE Listener Reads

…I’d like to congratulate your station for its new and more powerful transmitter, which now enables its listeners to better receive and hear wonderful classical music, and most especially, God’s word, over the radio waves! I’ve been a long-time listener of your radio station and I continue to enjoy the magnificent pieces played by the classical geniuses. I pray that you continue to receive the necessary funding to further improve your station’s transmitter equipment and facilities. You all are doing a great job!

I’m glad that I’m able to listen to 98.7 DZFE even when I’m in Anilao, Mabini in Batangas where I often go to dive to enjoy God’s beauty and wonder from under the sea! The signal strength is dependent on where I position myself along the beach, but I do get a decent reception when I’m able to find a good location. Listening to classical music and the Word of God by the sea is such a fantastic and spiritually-uplifting experience!

An Online Listener of DYVS Bacolod Writes

I am an avid listener from early morning until late evening. I consider DYVS as my partner in life…. This station comforts and consoles me in my times of loneliness and inspires me to stand firm and strong in fulfilling His will for my life.

From a Listener of the Pagpamalandong Program

May God give you fresh supply of strength to do His will, anoint your work, bless your ideas so that even your smallest accomplishment will bring Him glory. God bless you!

An E-Mail from a DZAS Listener

We never miss a day of tuning in to your station. Both my husband and I are into sales that’s why whenever we are on the road, we listen to your programs. Your airings have really helped us in our everyday living and in our spiritual lives. We learned to be calm in everything because we believe that the Lord is always there to guide, save and love us. Thank you for the worship songs that truly inspire us. God bless you as you keep on spreading God’s word to many more people.

A Listener’s Feedback to DZFE’s Improved Broadcast

As of the first week in April, signal strength has improved markedly here in Angeles City…There are no buildings over one story close by. I must listen in mono for full quieting. I will look forward to 15,000 watts!

From a Nguon Song Listener in Phu Yen Vietnam

I listen to Nguon Song’s broadcast regularly and tell others about your broadcast as I have been doing for many years. May God give His anointing and power to your ministry so that it would be fruitful and bring glory to God! I don’t know if you remember, but in 2007, I asked for prayers from Nguon Song as the government would not allow me to go to a seminar on theology. God answered our prayers and I was able to take that course. But when I came back, I was not allowed to lead the two home churches that I was responsible for. Please continue to pray for me in this struggle.

A listener from Ho Chi Minh City Testifies

Thirty years ago, I was a devout Buddhist. But this belief did not meet my needs so I looked for another faith. One day, I heard a pastor preach a powerful sermon. It touched my heart so I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. For about nine years now, I have had the privilege to learn God’s Word through Sunday School every week. Every week there is a quiz and I really enjoy it. I go to two different churches on Sundays to worship God and listen to His Word. I pray three times a day to ask God to teach me, help me understand and memorize His Word, and to remember hymns and other songs that are sang in church.

This year, I am 80 years old; my memory is fading and learning hymns has become difficult, but I feel blessed and thankful to God for what I have. I’m thankful that God has given me a pocket-sized radio. I just happened to turn it on and Nguon Song’s broadcast came up. I was so excited that I listened all the way until the end of the program, then I started dinner. Thank God that He has given me a 4th radio that allows me to listen to Nguon Song and other stations clearly. And now I would listen to my radio until 10 p.m. before I start my dinner. I record each session so that I can listen to it again. As for the quality of the broadcast, at times it is perfectly clear. At other times, I can’t hear a thing.

At times I want to catch the broadcast at 5 a.m., but I miss it because I get home from church late the night before. Please send me copies of your broadcast so that I can read it again and give it to my friends in my small group.

An E-mail from a Senior Vice President and Head of an SME Banking Group Reads

I am a regular listener and am usually tuned in between 6:30 a.m. to around 8:15 a.m., on my way to the office. Please allow me to commend and give credit to David, your morning DJ, for his very good choices of Baroque selections. I really like the type of classical music he plays on air, particularly Baroque music. He’s a learned classical enthusiast who surely knows his music!

One thing I like about his style is his untiring explanation—providing background on the type of music, the artists, the composer/s, the musical instrument/s used and the era when the music was composed (and popularized).

I’d also like to give your station recognition for using a Christian values platform for your programs. DZFE is definitely rare, a true Christian station and in a class of its own!

From a Listener of 1233 DYVS

Your broadcast has helped me during one of the most trying times of my life. I was experiencing identity crisis then and the programs aired, especially that of Pastor Ed Lapiz’s and the English programs of Mr. Swindoll and Dr. James Dobson, helped me triumph over my silent struggles. The Lord is so good and His grace is really amazing!

From One of Our Donors

… We are writing to thank you for your letters to us, time and again, informing us of your work and asking for prayers for your ministry. This we do—upholding you always before the throne of grace. It’s now our turn to inform you of our situation and ask for your prayers.

I am now old and sick with many kinds of illnesses. I have had a stroke and I now have Parkinson’s disease. An artery in my head is already cut. I have lost my sense of balance and cannot stand upright without a cane. I cannot walk around so I just stay inside the house all day.

Now, we cannot continue sending financial support to you and your ministry as our SSS pension is barely enough to buy our food and medicine and pay for our doctors’ and hospital bills. But we pray for you every day that God would continue to bless you, strengthen you and support you as you work for Him.

A Text Message from a DXKI Listener

God used DXKI to open our eyes to the truth and save my whole family. Now we are a happy family and our house is now a home because Christ is now with us.
