In 2013, when Super Typhoon Yolanda struck Tacloban City and other communities, FEBC’s First Response Radio (FRR) played a crucial role in providing essential information for 45 days. The positive reception prompted their return, and in 2018, 97.5 DYFE-FM Tacloban “Unang Tugon ng Pamayanan” was established as a testament to their commitment.
Five years since its inception, DYFE continues to resonate as a channel of hope and resilience through its broadcast ministry. A dedicated team of volunteers tirelessly shares vital information, connecting deeply with the local community. In times of disaster, FEBC recognizes the pivotal role of communication as aid, with FRR empowering individuals to offer effective support in the field.

This year, FEBC Philippines organized two significant events: the FRR International Confab in Subic, Zambales, and the FRR Local Training in Manila and Palawan. The International Confab gathered FEBC representatives from the Philippines, Indonesia, and India to facilitate knowledge sharing, strategy development, and the creation of an FEBC FRR International Operations Manual.
Meanwhile, the FRR Local Training, attended by eleven participants from stations FEBC Philippines, discussed gender-sensitive disaster response, partnership, and communication. Participants received technical and broadcast preparation, created 15 quality materials, and conducted a successful setup simulation.
“FRR training/s can be considered as a “suitcase of trainings” as it is packed with many lessons ranging from technical know-how, writing for radio, communicating information the right way – that saves and transforms, first, the very lives of the FRR trainees themselves, among others. This Training opens participants, who are also potential facilitators and field members/aids, to the realities of an actual deployment. It is worth mentioning that this Training also is a spiritual battle – preparing you to face the evils of a disaster and of one’s self.”
